The viewer’s 3-dimensional face and figure are captured by a depth sensor and recreated life-size and in real time on a vertical 50-inch screen, as though looking into an otherworldly mirror. Within the digital reflection, a bright fuchsia glow emerges inside the viewer’s skull in place of the brain and remains internally connected as the viewer moves through the installation.

The sensual fuchsia colour was chosen as a hue that exists in its own right, neither red nor pink.

The depth sensor uses infrared radiation, invisible to the human eye, and unlike a standard camera, can operate in both complete darkness and daylight. The work aims to inspire the viewer to identify more deeply with their mind when looking into the MRI-like mirror, rather than with the surface attributes reflected in a conventional one.

The work encourages the viewer to internalise the glow as existing within their own mind.
