Visual dosing, 2026
Interactive installation, 2 × 1.5 × 2 m (H × W × D)
depth camera, system built in Touchdesigner, 50" vertical 4K screen
The work is a response to the proliferation of intense visual information in everyday life, from short-form social media content to advertisements in public spaces, and to the resulting sensory overload and desensitisation.
When the viewer is physically distant from the work, the plain grey sphere remains fully closed. It opens only when the viewer approaches the work closely, as detected by a depth sensor, creating the effect of glimpsing inside the shell. The interactive installation carefully doses intense visual information by revealing it only through small, calibrated openings within the grey shell, and only when the viewer comes close. This limits both the amount of information and the duration of exposure.
The work explores mechanisms of perception and seeks to find a dosage of visual information that strikes a balance at the threshold between a high-intensity experience and sensory overload, leading to desensitisation.
